Pecan Valley RV Park, Junction Texas

Yesterday, June 14, 2011 we were up early and finished packing at Corpus Christi, N.A.S.  We got on the road by 9:00 destination: Junction Texas.

We decided to travel to Las Cruces on our way north towards Santa Fe. My Father and Karen are in Las Cruces for a few days and we thought we would stop to see them and catch up as they just got back from a trip to Spain and Italy. Otherwise we would head northwest through hot arid Texas. We will add a couple hundred miles traveling via Las Cruces but at least I'll know the interstate roads will be good.

Hot and Dry Traveling on I-37 and I-10

Temperatures outside were in the mid 90's in the early afternoon. I have the TST TPMS system below. I usually don't travel in such hot temperatures and noticed that the tires were up to the mid to even upper 120 PSI and rolling temps @ hundred plus teens. Cold temps were set at 110. It's a little disconcerting not knowing what the parameters should be!  I've heard that PSI increasing up to 20% are acceptable but I'm not sure.  I'd be interested in hearing from others about their real world traveling temps and pressures with the same system and Goodyear RST tires.

TST TPMS

After about 260 plus miles we arrived at Pecan Valley RV Park outside of Junction Texas. It's a small park set back off a Ranch Road just a few miles from Interstate I-10 and exit 451. A mature Pecan Grove surounds the small park. We paid the $22 overnight fee and got set up noting that they only had 30 amp service.

Temps were in the mid 90's and it sure would have been nice to be able to run both a/c's but we were lucky to have the shade from two very large Pecan Trees. The grass all around was extremely dry and brittle from the severe draught.

After we got settled inside and started cooling down, we looked outside and saw that we were surrounded by deer! I think that besides us there were only 3 other guests that were perhaps semi-permanent.

Pecan Valley RV Park is a good stop over when traveling through West Texas if you can get by with 30 amp service and very poor cell phone service (Verizon). Also know that you won't get any TV channels over the air. Overall not a bad place to park overnight.
