June 9, 2010.
I awoke at 6:30 to a beautiful sunny day at Kirtland A.F.B. in Albuquerque, NM. Temps were in the upper 70‘s. Joyce and I both got out the door by 7:00 to walk the dogs as we wanted to get going on a bike ride.
We got on the road by 8:00 and took our Cannondale road tandem out for a spin around the base. We were back just a little after 9:00. We got cleaned up and then prepared for a trip to the Rio Grande Botanic Garden in Albuquerque.
My father and Karen rode with us to the aquarium and gardens in Old Town. We stopped first for lunch at a local pizza joint. We came across Romero Street in Old Town.
It was already heating up so we decided to visit the gardens first and finish up with the aquarium.
The gardens included a butterfly exhibit.
The aquarium exhibit was nice and had interesting marine exhibits. However, it was on a much smaller scale than what we experienced while living in Florida and visiting the Tampa Aquarium, Sea World etc.
It was a nice and inexpensive excursion. There were a lot of moms and kids all over the place. I guess that’s to be expected during the summer months.
We drove down Central Avenue part of the old Route 66 on the way back to the base. We spent the rest of the afternoon in our shadeless campsite sheltering inside from the heat and direct sun.
