January 13, 2010. Temperatures were in the upper 20’s when we awoke. The sun was shining and it promised to warm to the upper 50’s.
We took Maggie and Rico for a 3 mile walk on Godwin Bridge Road. The long walk tired them out and they were ready for a nap when we got back.
Joyce and I decided to go fishing down by the canoe launch. We had bought chicken livers as locals told us that was the best bait for catfish. We were just interested in just catching anything and then releasing it. Instead, I ended up breaking Joyce’s pole trying to release an underwater snag. We fished for just a little while as we weren’t getting any bites and I began to suspect that the water was too cold for good fishing. While we were fishing we saw what looked like a river otter diving and swimming in the river about 20 yards from us. Of course, we weren’t able to get any pictures of it as it was elusive diving and ascending in different locations.
Later we rode our bikes to the end of Godwin Bridge Road to check the mail. Riding on that road is like riding on a hard packed sandy beach. Not always easy on a bike.
